Computer Science

Faithful to the principle of educating through the practical application of knowledge, Dowal School has always strived to make technology an inherent part of its educational model. In recent years, Dowal School implemented its first computer network whose main purpose was to enable people to share ideas, work, and information no matter how far apart they happened to be in both time and distance. After years or working with standalone personal computers, system which proved to be inefficient as users were confined to solitary communion with their own computers, thus isolating them from the rest of the world, the authorities at Dowal decided it was time to make a radical change. When faced with the decision of which type of network would best suit the school’s communication needs, Dowal adopted the server/client model. Our network is built around two centralized servers, which are administered from a central location by our Information Technology Administrator. Connected to the servers are a total of sixty nine users or clients, of which thirty three are part of our Computer Laboratory.

Our Computer Laboratory is equipped with thirty three personal computers running various Windows operating systems, each one with its own LCD monitor. In the laboratory, students are encouraged to develop their analytic and creative side through intensive courses on programming, graphic design, system analysis, productivity, and logic. At the end of their secondary schooling, all students should have the necessary hardware and software knowledge and skills to become certified Computer Technicians upon graduation, although not everyone chooses to follow this path.
