Math Workshop 2009: The Use of Manipulatives
On November the second, 2009 ,early in the afternoon , the Math Department and the Preschool staff gathered to share their knowledge and enjoy some games in the two hour workshop, "The Use of Manipulatives 2009 " .The facilitators were Ms. Ana Melissa (Geometry ,Accounting , Statistics and Algebra II teacher), Mr. Roy (5th and 6th grade Math teacher ),Mr. Juan Carlos ( 1st and 2nd grade Math teacher ) and the event coordinator, Ms. Esther Orellana ( Precalculus teacher) .
The objective of the workshop was to provide the basic training to the Preschool Teachers in the use of concrete material, so they would later be able to teach their students to develop basic mathematical concepts while touching, playing, and moving things around. Everybody had a blast with the geoboards , tangrams ,and others..
